Come sing praise to the Lord with our Chancel choir directed by Diane Smiley accompanied by our pianist Cindy Hitt. Our choir is open to anyone who loves to sing or just come meet Diane.
About Diane Smiley:
Rev. Diane Smiley – Choir Director – is a retired Ordained Deacon in Full Connection. She has a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Oklahoma and has directed choirs at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, College Avenue United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church in Texarkana; and the First United Methodist Church in Booneville, Arkansas. She studied voice with Dame Eva Turner, visiting professor of voice, at OU and has been the soloist for many choir and community performances in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Texas. While serving as Associate Pastor for Christian Education at Community UMC in Columbia Missouri and Kirkwood UMC in St. Louis, Missouri, she often served as accompanist or piano soloist in both contemporary and traditional worship services. After serving as pianist at Covenant since October 2004, she was very happy to become the choir director in May of 2006 and loves working with pianist Cindy Hitt.
About Cindy Hitt:
She received her B. A. in Psychology from Texas Woman’s University, with a minor in music. Switched from Music Education to Psychology in her Junior year of college. She took her first official piano lesson when she was a freshman in High School (private school) and won a competition at the end of the year, so she decided to keep playing! Took voice and piano lessons through most of High School and College, and have sung and played in many churches (different denominations) .Have written music (not published) and hopes to write more music in the future.
